Sure, feel free to visit. We like having company. All we ask is that you call us well in advance so that we know your intentions.
It is not that the con staff were against the funspot activity, it is that our insurance could not cover any event off property, so we could not endorse it as a MP event. Insurance is picky, and thus the same reason we could not get the live animals last year.
There are some people trying to do one again this year in the JAX area.
You also say your going to not going to MP cuz it's just like every other con now that it is out of a resort hotel.. Why then goto FC or AC?
People complained the hotel was too large and spread out last 2 years.. now it is all tight and compact.

Fun Spot:
Oh but contraire, as we were trying to set up the Fun Spot event last year we received a number of comments that we ere cutting into the con events, specifically the Kagi Hour. The fun spot event has never been endorsed by the con itself, we as suitors accepted the fact and did our own arranging, but last year the con took exception to us going and even went so far as to suggest that it might be detrimental to those who are on con staff to support the trip.
Resort vs. a hotel:
Going to MP at the resort was nice; it gave suits a place to wander among the gardens and walk in an open atmosphere. The con is small with a high percentage of suites. FC and AC are huge cons requiring a high degree of coordination. Moving MP to a closed hotel will be like attending a meeting of a small group of furs, not a close knit convention. Moving the con to JAX also is a deterrent as the area is not nearly as nice and food requires you travel across the river. I suspect the move here was due to the con chair living there as much as it was anything else, and I don't recall anyone complaining about walking through gardens to get to the hotel lobby, the walk was short and you got to meet a lot of interesting people. Now walking ten minuets and taking two sets of stairs to get to the dealers room at AC was too spread out.
In short, making the move as MP did turned it into a fur meet, rather than a small convention. There's no doubt that some outside influence was exerted to make this happen, because MP was a great con that did compete quite vigorously with the larger east coast events. It's too bad it succumbed to such influence.
Jax move had nothing to do with the con chair. infact, it is more a pain for a majority of the con staff. It was economics. Since Katrina damaged LA/MS convention areas, those large cons moved to Orlando.. Orlando convention space now booked 2 years in advance, and tripled it's rates. No fur con will survive if it cost $300 a night for rooms, and $100 for reg to just pay for the meeting space. Tampa was second market looked at, and it was still double what we paid in previous years in Orlando. The post 9/11 dip in Orlando convention market, where they lowered their prices to fill rooms has ended. JAX was the only option to do it with a $100 room rate.
and, we did get alot of "hotel was too spread out" complaints both years in that hotel, since alot of people got booked into rooms on the other side of the resort. You are like one of 5 that said you liked it, and we had much more compain to the opposite.
We did not intentionally schedule events against the fun spot.. we were scheduling events to keep no dead spots in the day during programming, as people complaind we had too many dead spots in programming. The schedules for the con were made long before the funspot event even had a time selected.

As you wish, I will not debate what I cannot prove; I was merely stating my opinion as to why I felt MP no longer fit into the category needed to be considered as a viable convention to attend based on what people had told me. Basically, it's no longer unique.
I did not state you intentionally scheduled events against the Fun Spot. We know we give up a con event or two by attending the Fun Spot. I stated that comments made to those who supported the event were negative, when before the con as not taken any stance against the trips. It is my opinion that because the Kagi hour was during our event and Kagi has initiated some influence on the con, that the con directors took exception to our trip.
I'm not trying to shoot down Megaplex for others. If folks want to go, great. I'm just stating why I'm not interested in attending this year.
Lets just say that personal experience and having friends in the right spots gave me all the information I needed to know that certain individuals associated with the con were not happy with us going to Funspot during the con. Insurance never played into it since we stated officially that we were doing this outside of the con and we were off the premises.
I can't say I heard anyone complain about the con space being too spread out. That's a new one to me.
I typically attend AC and FC because they're big and I get to see everyone. I attend some of the smaller cons for various reasons, sometimes because they have something unique to offer, sometimes because I want to visit with certain individuals who are there and sometimes because I enjoy a less busy con.
Megaplex had something unique to offer. What I enjoyed is now gone. That's it in a nutshell.

We really did have a good time. Great roomys, and great people. The dinner was fantastic even if I had trouble walking afterwards, and the extra trips to SF and such a blast.
It was great seeing you and Radjin again. I'm really glad that you like what Noble did with Cornwall. Hopefully I'll see you two at AC.

Thanks :) It's actually an inside joke with the other Big Island furs. There is a cashier at our local Burger King who may very well be Legolas's clone, and we all noticed it before we even knew each other. You wouldn't believe how long we dragged out the "Lord of the Onion Rings" jokes...

It was fun hanging out with you guys even if it was brief stops here and there. I think my boyfriend and I were hoping to catch you guys Saturday night but everybody was in bed already (I can't remember who told us that).
