There's an orginal A&W Root Beer place up there? Hot damm, that's awesome ! :)
It's old and small but yes there is. It's still pretty popular too. I think they need to work on their juke box though. Some of the records skipped big time and it took my money twice. Heh.
Retail sales not a bad ideal til you get on a maintanace position.I know which A&W resteraunt your talking about, hon.I do need to get out of the house and do my mall walkies :)
Take Care
I bet you've been to that A&W a few times yourself. Heh.
Mall wakies is fun. Good luck to you as well with your job search. *hugs*
*huggles* I went a few times and the school i got trained for inventory control shipping & receiving Training & Resource Center is closed.Mall walkies are fun and to do more animal word crossword scratch offs.
*hugs*
I wish you good luck on the job front, coonie...
Thanks. To you as well. Neat icon btw. Heh.
Keep at those honing those interview skills it'll pay off. I'm routing for you. :3
I don't think I've ever been able to hone my interview skills much, but I've gotten really good at BS on the applications. I never lie on them, but they sound really good. Heh.
Thanks. I'll just keep plugging along and hopefully something good will happen.
I had to make a similar realization five years ago... it took a year for it to dawn on me that I was not going to get the job I wanted and I'd better just get something. Best of luck finding something good!
I'd suggest that as a gay man you'd do great in a craft store (ooh, look at all the fabulous satin ribbons!), but I wouldn't wish that upon you. ;)
I kind of knew it was going to take a while in the back of my mind but I didn't want to believe it. It's getting to the point that I have to do anything to bring in some cash.
I just about spit my coffee out when I saw your gay man reply. Damn that was funny. *LOL*
Funny thing is that I was thinking more along the line of hardware stores which is the complete opposite. Sorry but I'm going to deviate from the stereotype. ;)
Try to stay positive and be confident about what you have to offer. I still say you missed your calling as a radio host - you have such a lovely, soothing voice. ^^ I'm not sure what there are as far as colleges go near you but they are typically overlooked when people consider a facilities type position. Catch me on AIM and I'll give you my login for The Chronicle online which allows you to search for positions within higher education. Lots of colleges also offer free courses to their employees as well so it's win-win.
Good luck hun - Rory and I are pulling for you. ^^ *snugs*
Thanks! I'm doing my best to stay positive. It's not easy though.
Radio host? Funny you should say that I've been told many times in my past that I have a radio voice. Radio seems to be dying though so it's probably best that I didn't get into it. ;)
I'll look for you online. Thanks guys. ^^
I'd love to go to a drive-in place like that just for the experience. I'm surprised that such places are still around. I remember the old A&W drive-in up here in Bronte just west of Oakville. I don't recall ever eating there but I remember driving by it many times with my parents. That must have been in the late 70's. I think I'll head out and get a Mozza Burger and a root beer for lunch today.
Good luck with your job search and interviews.
I was surprised too. I thought most were ancient history at this point. The place is still doing well though and I'm guessing that's what's keeping it from going away. It's also a bit of a landmark. American Graffiti enthusiasts bring their cars there all the time. ;)
Mmmm...burgers. I hope you had a good Mozza burger. Heh.
Thanks. I hope some good luck comes my way before too long.
Hehe, the Mozza burger was good. There's an A&W at a mall which isn't too far from where I work. Too bad they don't have the frosted mugs like they do at the resturants. I went to one during my rounds and asked for a large root beer. The lady there reaches into a freezer an pulls out this huge mug. I thought it was some joke, I've never seen a mug that big before. Then when I'm almost done she asks if I was going to be ready for a refill. I think with having a mug that big the last thing you'd want to hear is being asked for a refill. lol
Those frosted mugs are great, yes. ^^
Oh, I don't know. I've been to this one twice and both times I wanted my mug refilled. You're right though. It's a lot of rootbeer. ;)
Hehe, I had no idea that they did refills. If I knew I would have gotten the medium. That large mug must be bigger than their large cups from the malls.
BTW, I hope you don't mind me adding you to my friends list.
Heck no, not at all. I don't post that often though just so you know. ;)
That's alright and thank you :). *Dougal cuddles* You're more than welcome to add me if you want.
Oakville? Damn....I use to pass through that area when I use to visit my grandmother in Orangeville a couple of years ago. Didn't know you were from there. That's very cool. ^^
*hugs*
Likewise :). I've been to Orangeville a couple times doing computer work at the courthouse. It's a nice little town. I just wish I could spend a little more time there.
There's an A&W in Standish (Michigan) that is still a drive-in place as well. They don't come in on rollerblades though, but you could also go in to dine-in and actually have to phone in your order. Was a pretty nifty place! Haven't seen an A&W like that much anywhere else.
They're pretty rare, yes. Rochester didn't have one and the one in Canada where I lived prior to that closed years ago. I think it's neat that there's one still here.
My brother and his family come down in another 2 weeks and I'm going to take them there at some point just to amuse my brother. As kids my parents use to take us to an A&W drivein like that all the time. ^^
I can't remember the last time i had some A&W stoof... Must've been a pretty long time ago, however. :*|~
And pre-SW George Lucas must be some pretty interesting stuff to watch.
"Today I had another interview for a maintenance position with the local government and I left with the typical feeling that I didn’t do very well. It was a panel of 3 big managers administering an oral exam."
I take it that job's really going to suck... X*D~
It looks like things - as bleh-inducing as they are - will be a little more monotonous for a bit yet. Retail does look like it'll probably be the only way to get by in the meantime... Eww. You should take the break regardless, go visit some chums you haven't seen in a bit and take a load off your feet. :*)~
Sad thing is I had to read the third paragraph twice this morning before I understood what you were making a joke about. Good one I might add. Heh.
Yea, I'm not thrilled at retail but it's better than working fast food, which I might add I will never do. ;)
Take a load off my feet? Aladasian...I've been unemployed for 9 months now. That's too much load off my feet. ;)
Growl! *hugs raccoon close* Sorry it took me so long to get my LJ going, but here I finally am...
I hope you find a decent job, you deserve it...
I hope I get to hear your lovely, soothing voice again soon as well ;>
Hello Bushrat. Welcome to LJ. Although I'm here I'm just a spot poster. Usually only post about once a month unless something interesting is going on.
Thanks. I hope I find a job soo too. I've grown tired of being unproductive around the house. ;)
Take care. ^^
*hugs*
